I’ve seen a fair bit of the world so far in my life. I have been very lucky that way, I was born in Vancouver and when I was eight we moved to Milton, which is just outside of Toronto. Through my family I have traveled to Switzerland, which is where my mom is from and where all her family still is, and Newfoundland, which is where my Aunt and cousins live. Thanks to volleyball I’ve been to some fun places in the States or Canada like Pittsburgh, Washington DC and Edmonton just to name a few. To top it off when we travel to Switzerland to see family we made the point of going to see other countries which has brought me to Germany, France and Italy. These experiences have really helped me realize just how much I love Europe. I love the culture and history in all these countries that goes back centuries before North America was colonized by the European powers.

My sister, Sara, and I - Paris 2015.

As soon as my class was talked to about the abroad opportunities I started looking at Humbers list of partner institutions and their countries. There is a TON of places that Humber has connections with for us students to go - most schools do. Once I saw the Dublin on the list I knew that was where I had to go. Sure there were a bunch of great places I could’ve gone, but Ireland has been on my bucket list of places to visit for as long as I can remember. So I thought, when will I ever get the chance to live in another country for such a long period of time, let alone a country where I’ve been dreaming of visiting for so long. I wanted to push myself outside of my comfort zone but also still be able to speak the language - didn’t want to push myself quite that much. I’ve always hear the Irish people are super nice and friendly and the culture there is so much fun which basically sealed the deal for me as the place I wanted to go. Once I decided that the only thing left was for Humber to approve it as my place to go and, well, here we are!

A few challenges I’ve faced so far was finding housing and just figuring out logistics but faith goes a long way and things worked out in the best way I could’ve hoped! Today I am 2 days out from departure and just finishing up the last few things I need to do before leaving and, of course, spending time with my family and pets - the cat (Pancake) is staring over my shoulder while I type this. This year is going to be an experience like no other, I just hope Ireland lives up to everything I hope it is! I’m sure I’ll let you know soon!! Comment below where your favourite place you’ve ever visited is!
