Madrid and Barcelona from May 23 - 29, 2019

Following our adventure in Scotland we traveled to Madrid for a few days. We arrived in Madrid late in the evening on May 22nd. Our first day in Madrid we walked around the city. We saw the Plaza de Cibeles and San Jeronimo El Real. We explored the Parque Retiro and say the Palacio de Cristal. It was a very hot, beautiful Spanish day. We ended up having naps in the afternoon and went for dinner near our AirBnB.
Our second day in Madrid was spent exploring the Palacio Real de Madrid. The majestic royal palace for the Spanish royal family - still used for State events to this day. It was incredible, comparable to Versaille and overlooking the surrounding city.

After a few days adventure in Madrid we took a high speed train to Barcelona. When we arrived in Barcelona we traveled down to our AirBnB on the beach in Castelldefels. The second day in Barcelona my Aunt Sara arrived to stay with us for the duration of our time in Barcelona. When she arrived we walked around the city exploring various areas and going into the Gothic Cathedral.

Our second day was spent on the beach by our AirBnB, enjoying the sun, the ocean and some gelato!
On our third day in Barcelona we took a tour bus around the city to see all the sights. We visited the Sagrada Familia, the amazing cathedral envisioned my Gaudi and still under construction 125 years later. Following our visit in the church we went to Parc Guell, a park overlooking the city that houses some of the creations of Gaudi. The entire city is touched with his architecture.
On our final full day in Barcelona we visited the Poble Espanyol, this is a little tourist spot filled with different architectural features from around Spain. It was cool to experience a piece of the different areas and we enjoyed a lovely Spanish lunch before Aunt Sara took the train to the airport and we returned to Castelldefels for the evening before we continued onto Nice, France the next morning.
