In April Matt came to visit me for a few weeks and after a few days in Dublin we jetted off to Portugal for four days. We spent our time in Lisbon and it was incredible. We had a great view from our apartment and fairly nice weather the whole time!
On our first day we traveled into the centre of Lisbon and walked around the hills and down by the river. We had lunch in Praca do Comercio and then went into the Lisbon Cathedral where they were setting up for Palm Sunday. Afterwards we continued up the Castelo de S. Jorge which has great views of the city and we got a visit from a peacock while relaxing at the cafe. We finished off the day with a ride on the famous tram and dinner on a terrace overlooking the water.
On our second day we visited the grounds of the 1998 Expo and the Lisbon Oceanarium. We saw some of the cutest penguins and otters followed up by a ride down the coast on a gondola! This was also the Saturday of the Masters so we finished off the day watching some golf.
Our third day we did a hop-on hop-off bus which was very helpful in getting around Lisbon and seeing as much as possible! We went into the Monastery of Jeronimos, and saw the Navigator Monument and Tower of Belem. It was all so impressive and beautiful along the river. We ate dinner just under the April of 25 bridge just beside a stunning marina. This was also when we first tried the famous portuguese custard tarts, we had been really hesitant but ended up enjoying them! Definitely a must try!
On our final day we took a short trip out to Sintra and visited the colourful palace on the hill. It was incredible, such amazing fews and so many little quirks making this city so beautiful and a must visit if you're ever in Portugal!
We had a great time in Portugal!! Recommend it to anyone who likes to travel as a place to go! With Lisbon being the second oldest capital city in Europe, after Athens, it is unique in many way and has so many little charms just waiting to be discovered. For those of you who have stuck around this long here are some food pictures just cause!
